SOLO EXIBITION BY JACE JUNGGYU KIM Presented by GOLDEN BRUSH ART AND LONSDALE QUAY
Abyss is a series that explores the boundary between abstraction and figuration, reflecting the relationship between the conscious and unconscious mind. The paintings exist in the liminal space between abstraction and figuration, where form emerge and dissolve, mirroring the way thoughts and emotions surface from the unconscious. This series is not about defining meaning, but about encountering it. Each piece reflects and internal landscapes; an intuitive response to experiences that are often difficult to articulate. Through layered textures, gestural marks, and evolving forms the work invites viewers to confront their own inner imagery and interpretation.
Opening Reception May 22nd 5pm - 9pm From Friday, May 22nd to Sunday, June 7th
During the exhibition, Jace will live-paint a white mural wall and invite visitors to participate in a collaborative artwork. Participants will respond to the prompt: "What object, colour, or feeling comes to mind when you think of Lonsdale Quay?". They will contribute directly to the canvas, guided by simple techniques and mark-making approaches.
This process reflects the idea of the collective unconscious, where each participant contributes symbolic fragments- archetypes - that merge into a unified composition. The final piece becomes a shared visual expression shaped by both artist and community.
To create an engaging, accessible art experience that transforms viewers into participants, bridging the gap between artist, audience, and space.
